My experience has developed me into a versatile leader, but I have specific strengths in a few areas.

  • Exuberance.

“The world is my parish.” I connect diverse people to mission and vision, even if they are not ‘members.’ In my world, there are no strangers, only friends I haven't met yet.

-Enthusiastic connector of people and organizations to a cause, mission and vision.

-Maintained meaningful relationships with church members, clergy and lay professionals within and outside Christian faith tradition, civic and community leaders, and government officials.

-Non-anxious approach to both building connections and managing conflict across a spectrum.

  • Strategic.

I ask the question, “What if?” This recurring question helps me see around the next corner. There I can evaluate the potential obstacles, then determine a path forward.

-Recruited and maintained diverse clergy and lay professional staff of a large urban church.

-Developed processes to create secure and open environment to play, pray, and learn.

-Led and/or managed several large local, national start-up, and regional Boards through chairing or providing leadership in governance.

  • Communicator.

I feel a need to bring stories to life, to energize them exciting and vivid. So, I turn events into stories and practice telling them. We have a story to tell.

-Effective preaching and teaching each week to groups large and small.

-Developed three major capital campaign strategies with the outcome of significant improvement to the facility and the culture of the church.

-Excellent in verbal and written skills. Not yet bilingual, but enrolled in conversational Spanish.

  • Futuristic.

I am the kind of person who loves to imagine what is beyond the horizon. The future fascinates me. Whatever fear there is in failure, there is only failing forward.

-Led church communications staff in annual stewardship, debt-reduction campaigns, and capital campaigns.

-Pivoted our communications staff to an outward facing posture, benefitting us with a COVID communication strategy at the ready.

-Established a national reading literacy ministry from position of chair of the local reading literacy ministry.

  • Focus.

I instinctively evaluate whether or not a particular action will help us move toward our objective. In an urban setting, there are many opportunities, yet we can choose very few.

-Anti-racism is my platform. There are three societal components that facilitate the reproduction of racism: education, housing, and jobs. One at a time, we can halt the production.

-Refocused our missional outreach toward advocacy and engagement. Relationships are key.

-Tightened our connections within our neighborhood and city for greater visibility.
